Balance in MotoGP: BMW and Kawasaki considered as the only options for the championship
BMW and Kawasaki are being considered as the only manufacturers ready to join MotoGP, according to Hervé Poncharal, president of the Independent Teams' Association (IRTA). The championship's organization aims to maintain balance and equal opportunities, so they are hopeful that a new manufacturer will join the championship in the near future.
Poncharal mentioned that the ideal scenario would be to have 24 bikes and six manufacturers, each with a different team. Since there are currently six satellite teams compared to five factory teams, MotoGP organizers do not want to further undermine the balance on the grid and prioritize new manufacturers.
The president of IRTA highlighted that BMW and Kawasaki are the only manufacturers that have the capacity and strength to enter MotoGP. Although he mentioned that Suzuki could also be interested in making a comeback, the two spots are currently reserved for BMW and Kawasaki. According to Poncharal, if another satellite team were given the opportunity, it would close the possibility for another manufacturer, creating uncertainty and breaking the established rules.
Poncharal also emphasized that it is not feasible for a team to enter the premier class of MotoGP with the intention of staying for just one year due to the high costs involved. Building a MotoGP team takes time and requires a significant investment. The president of IRTA pointed out that it usually takes at least five years to establish oneself and achieve consistent results.
Regarding the choice of manufacturers by the teams, Poncharal emphasized the importance of freedom and the free market. Each satellite team has the freedom to choose the manufacturer that best suits their needs and preferences. Technical and business aspects, as well as the performance and support offered by the manufacturer, are some of the factors that teams consider when making their decision.
In summary, the search for a new manufacturer in MotoGP continues, and BMW and Kawasaki are presented as the most viable options at the moment. Stability and balance in the championship are priorities for the organizers, and they hope to find a new manufacturer to join the competition in the near future, providing even more excitement and competitiveness to MotoGP.
