Ducati Revolutionizes the World of Motocross: Antonio Cairoli at the Helm
Ducati, the iconic Italian brand known for its high-performance motorcycles on the asphalt, has made history by announcing its entry into the world of motocross (MX). This exciting move comes just over a year after Triumph, another renowned brand, made its leap into motocross. Ducati is not only venturing into this competitive segment, but is doing so with a star-studded team and an approach that promises to revolutionize the discipline.
The Ducati announcement includes a new range of motocross bikes that pledge to bring the brand's performance and passion to dirt tracks. What makes this project even more exciting is the partnership with Antonio Cairoli, the nine-time motocross world champion. This veteran rider, who retired from professional competition in 2021, now assumes a crucial role as the tester and developer of Ducati's first motocross bikes.
The signing of Cairoli not only adds experience and knowledge in the world of motocross but also reflects Ducati's ambition to create a motocross bike that is truly exceptional. Cairoli himself expressed his excitement for this new adventure, which he described as a "dream come true" and a "great source of pride." Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, was equally thrilled to announce Ducati's entry into motocross. He emphasized the brand's intention to design lightweight motorcycles with high-quality components and outstanding performance. The idea is for these bikes to excite an increasingly broad audience of motocross enthusiasts.
Ducati has also entered into a multi-year agreement with Maddii Racing, an experienced motocross team, to be their reference structure in MX competitions. The first stop will be the Italian Motocross Championship in 2024, where Alessandro Lupino, an eight-time Italian champion and winner of the 2021 MXoN, will compete as a Ducati racing and testing rider.
Ducati's motocross project will focus on achieving extreme lightweight design, utilizing high-quality components and engines with broad power delivery. Furthermore, one of Ducati's distinctive features, the Desmodromic system, will be incorporated into this new range of MX engines.
Although the technical details have not been fully disclosed yet, they are expected to be presented during EICMA in Milan in the coming weeks. This exciting announcement promises to shake up the motocross world and add an Italian touch of excitement to off-road competitions. Ducati is determined to establish its presence in motocross in the same way it has done on the asphalt: with style, passion, and exceptional performance.
