Fabio Quartararo reveals the challenges Yamaha faces at the beginning of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship.
The start of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship at the Qatar GP has left Yamaha deep in reflection about its performance, according to the words of star rider Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman expressed his frustration after qualifying eleventh in Sunday's race, indicating an even greater distance between Yamaha and its competitors.
For Quartararo, the 2021 world champion, the current situation is even more concerning than in the previous season. In his statements, he lamented that, despite some improvements, the rivals remain superior and faster than last year. He observed a widened gap between the European manufacturers and Yamaha, noting that even Honda seemed to be struggling less in comparison.
Quartararo's diagnosis of the Yamaha bike was straightforward and discouraging. He described a series of varied problems ranging from aerodynamics to traction and tire degradation, not to mention electronics. Despite efforts to improve, he lamented that there had been no progress since the initial tests.
One of the critical points identified by Quartararo was the lack of speed in high-acceleration corners.
