Dani Pedrosa: The Pleasant Surprise of MotoGP San Marino
The MotoGP world was filled with surprises and excitement at the San Marino Grand Prix, and one of the pleasant revelations of the day was Dani Pedrosa's performance. Despite having been retired from competition for a while, the Spanish rider showed that he still has a lot to offer.
In an interview with DAZN, Pedrosa expressed his satisfaction with his performance in the Sprint race, where he finished in fourth place and battled intensely for a spot on the podium against the champion and championship leader, Francesco Bagnaia. He not only highlighted the result but also shared his enjoyment throughout the entire weekend.
"I've had a lot of fun. When you have good feelings with the bike, can ride well, and are at the front, you enjoy it a lot," commented Pedrosa. He also praised the work of his team and the performance of his motorcycle.
One of the interesting aspects of the interview was when Pedrosa talked about his experience in two-stroke motorcycle racing, a time very different from the current Moto3 and Moto2 era. In that context, he learned skills that are still useful to him in today's MotoGP, such as throttle sensitivity, gear management, and attention to the rear tire, which is more delicate on two-stroke motorcycles.
Regarding specific race preparation, Pedrosa revealed that he didn't focus on it as much. However, he emphasized the importance of using soft tires in Sprint races due to the need for grip in the early laps. He explained that he did a Sprint Race with soft tires to get accustomed to the sensations of this type of tires.
Finally, he spoke about the full-length race and Jorge Martín's surprising performance in the early laps. Martín managed to build a considerable lead in the initial stages of the race, but Pedrosa expressed uncertainty about whether he could maintain that pace with medium tires in the main race. He also mentioned the importance of tire management in the early laps.
Dani Pedrosa's performance at the San Marino GP was a pleasant surprise for fans and demonstrated that, despite his temporary retirement, he remains a talented and competitive rider in the world of MotoGP. Fans are eager to see how his season unfolds in the upcoming races.
