KTM Abandons the Conventional: Pedrosa's Carbon Fiber Frame Shines in Misano
Dani Pedrosa's triumphant return to the world of MotoGP at the 2023 San Marino Grand Prix left everyone in awe. But beyond his astonishing on-track performance, what truly stood out was the introduction of an innovative frame developed by the Spanish rider for KTM.
Pedrosa, officially retired in 2018 but a test rider for KTM since 2019, has had two notable appearances this season. However, his performance in Misano exceeded all expectations as he achieved fourth place in both races, nearly making it to the podium on both occasions.
What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Pedrosa's main mission in Misano was to test a new chassis with carbon fiber parts. This piece, which he has been working on throughout the year, stood out as a true breakthrough in chassis design. On a weekend where the demands were at their highest, Pedrosa demonstrated that this new chassis had great potential by outperforming all KTM riders, except for Jorge Martín, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pecco Bagnaia, the three title contenders.
The new carbon fiber chassis represents a significant change for KTM, which has traditionally used a tubular design. This 2023 chassis, which has already seen improvements throughout the season, is characterized by its seamless chrome-molybdenum steel structure, with some carbon fiber parts. The entire assembly is painted in KTM's characteristic orange color.
